Avis beach is located close to the southern end of the airport on the west coast of
Santorini, just south of
Agia Paraskevi beach. It's only 7km from the capital
Fira and that's about a 15 minute drive.
Like most beaches on Santorini it has black sand and pebbles so not ideal for building sand castles or for kids to play. There's a taverna just behind the beach and they rent out a handful of sun loungers. Also along this region of the coast you'll find a couple of large hotels and outside these there's more sun loungers available, the rest of the beach is left clear.
Avis beach is home to a wind surfing school where you can have a single lesson to get you started or a few days worth of lessons in both windsurfing and sup surfing (stand up paddleboarding). The area is particularly good for this as there's often stronger than normal winds on this side of the island.
The winds here does mean that the sea can be a little rough at times so not ideal for weaker swimmers.
One perk to Avis beach is the proximity to
Kamari beach, if you fancy visiting one of the most popular beaches then you can walk from Avis as it's just under 500m to the south.
