Baxedes beach is on the northern coast of
Santorini close to
Oia and around 10km from the capital
Fira which is about a 15 minute drive.
The beach is quite rustic, it has the usual black sand and pebbles with some seaweed in places but it's not a major issue. There's usually a single row of sun loungers but that's normally enough for those that want them. There's no taverna on the beach but there is usually a snack hut serving cold drinks.
Baxedes is narrow in places and offers shade to those that want it from the dramatic white cliffs that surround it. The beach doesn’t get too busy which is great for those wanting a bit of space and privacy, for that reason it is sometimes used by nudists but they tend to stay away from the main section where to sun loungers are.
It's hard to recommend Baxedes beach for families with little ones, the lack of facilities coupled with the northerly winds which when at their peak can make the sea a little rough so not ideal for weaker swimmers.
It’s easy to get to Baxedes with a quad, scooter or hire car. Parking is available in various places along the beach or you can use the road behind the beach.
