Banana Beach is an extremely popular beach on the north east coast of
Zakynthos (Zante) down in the Vasilikos Peninsula. It’s roughly 14km from the capital
Zakynthos Town and that would take about 25 minutes to drive.
Banana beach is over 500m long before it merges into
Ionio beach, it’s also up to 80m deep in places so it’s a huge expanse of gorgeous soft sand that’s perfect for families with youngsters who want to play in the sand, build castles or dig holes.
It’s easy to see why it’s so popular with perfect soft sand, gorgeous water that’s shallow enough for kids to play safely. There’s a ton of water sports available with banana boats, pedalos jetskis, parasailing and much more. There’s even a beach volleyball court too so there’s no end of entertainment for those who need to keep teenagers busy throughout the day.
There’s a huge amount of sun loungers and umbrellas available on banana beach, particularly around the tavernas, these are pretty tightly packed in and if you want a front row seat you’ll need to arrive early. The tavernas also play music, offer table service and free wifi, this is very much a modern beach with all the creature comforts.
In between the tavernas you’ll find plenty of open space where you can just lay out a towel or play some bat and ball. The music wont bother you too much so you’ll be able to relax a bit more if that’s what you want from your day on the beach.
Parking is available around the tavernas at the rear of the beach but the spaces are limited given the size and popularity of the area. There’s also some roadside parking on the roads that lead down to the tavernas so there are options.
There’s a number of places to stay around Banana beach and even more around Ionio beach so if you want to stay in the area that’s definitely an option and why wouldn’t you want to stay by such a fantastic beach.
