Minies beach, sometimes also known as Minia beach is a natural sandy beach found on the west coast of
Kefalonia close to the northern end of the airport. It’s around 8km from the capital
Argostoli and should take about 15 minutes by car.
As Minies beach is near the airport it’s either “great for seeing planes coming and going” or is “noisy because of the planes” depending on your point of view. Either way, being on the beach when a plane lands or takes off is certainly an experience you wont forget.
Minies beach is ideal for children due to the soft golden sand that’s great for digging or building sand castles and the shallow clear water that’s perfect for kids to paddle in. There are no water sports though so older kids may get a little bored. There are a couple of rows of sunbeds available as well as plenty of space to lay a towel out if you prefer, there’s also a small taverna at the back of the beach where you can get a drink or snack.
Minies beach is easy to find, simply head for the airport and then head for the northern end and you can’t miss it. Behind the beach there is a small car park that’s usually good enough for the amount of visitors the beach gets, if not there’s roadside parking available.
