Kardamena is a small town in the centre of the south coast of
Kos, roughly 7km from the airport and about 30km from the capital
Kos Town.
On the outer edges of the town are some newer all-inclusive hotel complexes and quieter areas but Kardamena is still generally for the 18-30 drinking crowd and because of that it has a lot of quite basic accommodation at a fairly affordable price.
As well as an almost endless supply of hotels there's tons of supermarkets, souvenir shops, car hire outlets and cash machines too. There are plenty of fast food places as well as a few nice restaurants, mainly around the harbour and sea front.
Kardamena isn't somewhere that you'd stay if you enjoy a quiet traditional Greek island holiday. It's more of an affordable package holiday destination for groups of friends or young couples.
If you'd like to stay in the area then have a look at the Kardamena page of booking.com
here. Alternatively find a great package holiday through Tui
here.
Kardamena is known for its lively nightlife and although it doesn’t get quite as raucous as the likes of
Laganas,
Kavos or
Malia it’s not far behind.
The evenings in Kardamena are largely about going out for a few drinks, the harbour area has lots of late night bars, bar street which has more bars with people shouting various drink deals to get you in their establishment and a few clubs. Bar street leads on to the square with, you guessed it, more bars.
The unusual thing about Kardamena is that the music goes off at midnight so the late evenings are spent enjoying the night air and chatting or you move on to one of the clubs that has sound proof doors.
Also in the area is a Go-Kart track which fits perfectly for the 18-30 crowd but there’s also a kids track too where little ones can ride electric cars in a circle.
Just north of Kardamena you can find a mini golf course at the Malibu beach bar and a little further out is a horse riding school too. There's scuba diving trips and lessons available in Kardamena itself and 5 mins drive to the south there's
Aquatica water park so there's plenty to keep you entertained in and around the area.
If you want to explore Kos island then Kardamena is a decent choice, it's well positioned to head north to Kos Town or south towards Kefalos and most places are within a 45 minute drive.
