The Basilica of Saint Stefanos is located right next to the beach of the same name towards the south of
Kos island, it’s around a 45 minute drive from the islands capital
Kos town and just 10 minutes from
Kefalos.
The basilica isn’t particularly big, just 1500 square metres so there’s not a huge amount to see, there are some walls remaining, lots of column pieces, most of which are broken up and laying on the ground rather than standing. There’s also a nice mosaic floor piece too.
Unfortunately there’s no sign posts to let you know what the various sections were so you’ll just be taking in the scene rather than learning about it.
Another plus point to the Basilica is that you get some good views here. You are right across from
Kastri islet and the slightly raised position means you can get good views of the beaches either side.
Getting to the Basilica of Saint Stefanos is easy, it’s right off the main coastal road and there’s a sign post to indicate where to turn off and head down to the coast. There’s ample parking right next to the basilica but it’s also used by everyone who visits the beaches either side so can get busy.
