Perissa is a popular holiday resort that sits on the south east coast of
Santorini, it’s around 12km from the islands capital
Fira and it would normally take about 20 minutes to make the journey by car.
As Perissa is on the opposite side of the island to the caldera you’ll find the prices for hotels, drinks and meals to be a lot more reasonable. It’s also the side of the island with the best beaches, still don’t expect soft golden sand though.
Perissa is an attractive village with whitewashed houses and volcanic scenery. It was mostly built in the sixties and some say it lacks the authentic Greek charm of other villages but it makes up for that with its relaxed sea side nightlife.
The village is the perfect spot for a package holiday, you can enjoy the beach in the day and relax in the almost unlimited choice of restaurants and bars in the evening. Everything you need is right on the doorstep with an abundance of hotels to choose from, vehicle hire shops, supermarkets, cash machines and all sorts of entertainment including Greek nights with traditional dancing, live music and if you look hard enough, the odd karaoke night too.
If you'd like to stay in the area then have a look at the Perissa page of booking.com
here. Alternatively find a great package holiday through Tui
here.
The night life in Perissa is based around the main beach road, there’s a number of bars that stay open late and offer live music to keep you entertained as well as an almost endless choice of restaurants for your evening meal.
There’s no clubs so don’t expect to be partying into the early morning but there’s definitely cocktail bars that stay open late enough to cover most peoples needs.
Heading across the island to take in the caldera views is a necessity on at least one night of your holiday to Santorini, on top of this you can also head north to
Kamari for a slight change of scenery.
Also in the area is
Ancient Thera which is a settlement that dates back around 3000 years and is well worth a look round, you’ll also get treated to some spectacular views from up there too.
