Megali Ammos is a narrow beach just outside
Skiathos Town, it’s easily walk-able from the main town and for that reason it can get very busy, particularly in the high season.
If arriving from somewhere else then get the bus to either stop 4 or 5, if you’re coming by car then there’s a small amount of parking on the roadside at the rear of the beach.
Megali Ammos beach has a number of tavernas and hotels along it’s length so there’s plenty of places to get refreshments throughout the day. There’s sun loungers with umbrellas available to hire as well as water sports like sofas and rings as well as pedalos and even boats to hire so you can explore the
Skiathos coast line at your own pace.
The water slopes gently at Megali Ammos so it’s great for families with kids. The water is crystal clear and the sand is soft and golden so they’ll love playing in the water or on the sand. It’s also good for those that enjoy strolling along the coast as it’s close to a kilometre long.
Perhaps the only downside to Megali Ammos beach is that, particularly at the Skiathos Town end, there’s very little room free to just lay out a towel and relax, the sun loungers are packed in too tightly on the narrow section of sand for that. If this is a problem, then try walking south down the beach and you should find it gets quieter the further along you get.
