Megas Gialos Beach is a stone beach that is up on the north east of
Skiathos, just to the west of the airports runway and not far from
Lalaria beach. There’s large rocks in the middle of the beach and access from the path is not for the faint-hearted.
It’s only 3.5km from the capital
Skiathos Town but would probably take 10-15 minutes to get there, particularly as the roads leading to the beach are unpaved and tricky to navigate, especially in the basic hire cars of the island, it might be easier on a quad bike.
Alternatively, if the winds aren’t too bad, you can get to Megas Gialos beach by hiring a boat and sailing there yourself. Currently none of the boats tours stop here but ask around as you never know when one may start offering it as an option.
Obviously with Megas Gialos being such a secluded beach you could easily find you are the only ones there, or sharing with just a handful of other people. This is lovely if you want to escape from the usual tourist beaches but just remember that it also has no facilities at all so make sure you bring everything you need with you, particularly food, drink, sun protection, something to lay on and a good book of course. As it’s such a secluded beach it is occasionally used by naturists.
There’s no parking at Megas Gialos beach, so you’d have to leave the car on the roadside and walk the rest of the way down to the beach.
