Evangelistria Monastery in
Skiathos is the most appealing of the island’s religious sites. It’s beautifully well kept with flowers, bunting and immaculate grounds making it a peaceful place to have a wander around or spend some time to yourself.
Monastery Evangelistria is set in a delightful position, poised above a gorge, 450 meters above sea level, built on a beautiful site but invisible from almost all directions. The position of Evangelistria monastery also means you get great views out over Skiathos. It’s worth noting that, like most Greek churches, you are required to cover your shoulders and knees when inside, they do provide wraps in case you forget to take something with you.
The monastery is open daily from 08.00-12.00 and 16.00-20.00, there’s no entrance fee unless you want to go into the museum which is 2€ each. The museum tells you about the monastery with some interesting information about the site. There’s a small café for snacks and drinks and a shop selling local goods like honey, Olive oil and wine, some of which is actually produced on site by the monks.
There’s ample parking out the front of the monastery as well as coach trips that stop off here so you shouldn’t have any trouble making your way to Evangelistria monastery.
