Metalia is a shingle beach on the south coast of
Thassos just outside
Limenaria, you could make the walk from the town in under half an hour or it’s a short 5 minute drive if you have a hire car or other vehicle.
The beach is quite small, it's around 200m wide but the majority of people visiting stick to the eastern end as the western end is a little rocky. It's just 40m from the taverna to the waters edge with the majority of the beach covered in sunbeds.
Metallia is a pretty beach with trees at the rear and rocks at either side. As mentioned, it's covered in sunloungers and umbrellas but they’re not as tightly packed as they are on some of the more popular beaches.
There’s a taverna serving food and drink at the rear of Metallia beach but no water sports so the more active beachgoer may get bored here.
The coarse sand and small stones that make up the bulk of the beach are a little rough on delicate skin so beach shoes may be useful, these are a good idea for swimming too as there are stone plates on the sea bed which can make for a slippery entrance to the water.
For these reasons we wouldn’t really recommend Metalia beach for youngsters, it's not terrible for little ones but there are definitely preferable beaches on the island for them to play safely on.
There’s parking available at the rear of Metalia beach as well as toilets and showers too.
