The village of Agios Georgios is nestled in the trees up on the hill side to the north west of
Thassos island, approximately 14km from the main town of
Limenas and right next to
Rachoni.
The original Agios Georgios village was located a few kilometres away in the mountains but is now abandoned, there is still a small church that you can visit, it’s around a 15-20 minute drive away or you could walk it which would probably take around an hour each way.
Agios Georgios is a very small village with no hotels so it’s not somewhere you can base your holiday but it is a lovely place for a short visit to get away from the crowds and have a peaceful wander around. There is one taverna in Agios Georgios which is a nice place to stop for lunch with views of the surrounding mountains.
If you'd like to stay in the area then have a look at the Agios Georgios page of booking.com
here. Alternatively find a great package holiday through Tui
here.
As mentioned, there's only one taverna in Agios Georgios so you're not heading here for a big night out, it is a good one though so if you find yourself in there for your evening meal and a few drinks you're unlikely to be disappointed.
Agios Georgios is also so close to Rachoni that it’s like a 2 for 1 deal, you can easily visit both in one day trip. There isn’t much else in the area so it’s not somewhere you’re likely to stumble upon, if you want to go to Agios Georgios you’ll have to make a specific trip.
