Panagia is a picturesque village built on the mountainside at roughly 300m above sea level with fabulous views over the Aegean sea. Panagia is located on the north eastern side of
Thassos island just 10km from the capital
Limenas.
Panagia is not one of the more popular tourist resorts in Thassos but it does still have a handful of places to stay and a number of good tavernas as well as stalls and shops selling local produce like lace and Olive oil and tourist mementos like fridge magnets.
For those that like the Greek culture you’ll enjoy wandering around the streets and seeing what the local bakeries and other shops have to offer.
There’s a natural spring that provides fresh water to the village of Panagia, the fountains in the square are the focal point of the village with locals and tourists gathering in the tavernas, restaurants and bars that surround the square, this is the perfect spot for a bit of lunch and some people watching.
There’s an Olive Oil Museum in Panagia, it’s nice to see how local Olive oil is made but there’s not a lot more to the museum than that.
If you'd like to stay in the area then have a look at the Panagia page of booking.com
here. Alternatively find a great package holiday through Tui
here.
There’s no late night bars or clubs in Panagia, this is a place you come to relax, enjoy the fresh air and a nice meal with some local wine or beer not to party.
you can count on your fingers the number of restaurants in the village so although there's not a huge selection there's enough of a variety for a few nights.
There's some great beaches in the area,
Golden beach which is widely considered one of the best sandy beaches on the island and perfect for families. There's also the beautiful
Saliara beach too, it's a little harder to get too but has spectacular turquoise waters.
The main sights to see near by are the ones in Limenas, there's the
Archaeological Museum, the
Ancient Agora and the
Acropolis of Thasos too.
