The ancient tower of Thimonia is located close to the south coast of Thassos, it’s around an hours drive from the capital
Limenas and just a couple of minutes from both
Alyki and
Giola so a trip to this area of the island is worth your while.
Unfortunately there isn’t much information on the tower of Thimonia at present, there’s no signs at the site and no excavations have ever taken place at the site. Despite this it’s still an impressive pace to visit, you get an impression of the original size of the tower and the views are worth it.
Getting to the tower is a little tricky as there’s no signpost where you leave the main road and from there it’s a gravel track that leads to the tower itself. It’s only 500m up the gravel track. There’s no parking when you arrive but as it’s a fairly quiet road there’s room to leave the car at the roadside and walk to the tower.
Another option is to walk from
Thimonia beach, it’s not the easiest walk but it’s definitely achievable. Just remember to wear walking boots and to take water with you.
