Kalamaki beach is on the south east coast of
Zakynthos (Zante), in the bay of
Laganas and just under 7km from the islands capital
Zakynthos town which would take approximately 10-15 minutes in the car.
The crystal clear, shallow waters of Kalamaki Beach offer safe swimming for kids and excellent snorkelling for nature lovers. In addition to loads of fish, you might encounter a sea turtle, as this extension of
Laganas Beach is a common nesting location. As a result, no dogs and no fishing is allowed and the beach is closed at night. Early risers might be rewarded with the touching experience of watching this endangered species’ eggs hatch.
Kalamaki beach stretches for 2km before it merges into Laganas beach. Along that stretch there’s a couple of tavernas where you can get food and drinks as well as rent sunbeds. There’s also pedalos and canoes available to hire so you can explore the Zakynthos coast line. The rest of the beach is left clear for kids to play and for adults to enjoy some peace and quiet.
Nearby is a luxurious, modern hotel as well as other places to stay so you can base your entire holiday in the area if you want to.
Due to it’s location at the end of the airports runway you’ll get to see low flying planes at various points throughout the day, some find it ruins the tranquil environment and others enjoy the experience.
There’s parking areas at the rear of the beach around the tavernas as well as on the side of the roads that lead down to the beach from the village of Kalamaki. You can also walk from Laganas beach to Kalamaki beach if you want to.
