About Marathias Beach
Marathias beach is located on the east coast of the Keri peninsular down in the south of Zakynthos (Zante) island. It’s around 20km to the islands capital Zakynthos Town and that would usually take about half an hour to drive.
At just 15m wide the beach is really narrow, it does stretch for around 175m from end to end though so you should be able to find a bit of space to yourself, particularly as it’s not one of the most popular beaches on the island.
The rocky landscape and lush, green hills offer plenty of shade over the pebble beach. There are sometimes a handful of sunbeds available, but not always. You wont find a taverna on the beach so bring water and snacks with you.
With pebble under foot beach shoes are recommended and although the water is shallow it may not be ideal for kids with minimal room to play and run around, coupled with the lack of amenities. This is really a place to wander, explore, and marvel at the exotic beauty of the Ionian Sea rather than to entertain little ones.
Getting to the beach is a challenge, you have to walk the last 200m or so as there’s no road down to the beach itself. There’s also minimal parking and no signs to tell you where to go so can be difficult to find.
