Porto Stenitis, sometimes known as Stenitis bay isn’t a beach as such, it’s a fjord on the west coast of
Zakynthos (Zante). It’s around 35km from
Zakynthos town which is the islands capital.
Although there’s no beach there’s some rocks that slope into the sea so you can get in the water. It’s a beautiful place for a swim with crystal clear waters and rugged scenery. Why not bring your snorkel and have a look below the water too.
Getting to Porto Stenitis can be difficult, it’s around a 5km trip from
Maries which is the nearest village. Unfortunately the road changes from tarmac to gravel around 1.5km from the bay meaning it’s probably best to go in a 4×4 or ATV rather than one of the standard under powered rental cars that you typically see on the island. Alternatively, leave the car at the roadside where it changes to gravel and walk the last section which would probably take around 20 to 30 minutes.
If you don’t fancy the drive or don’t have a hire car then another option to visit is booking onto a boat tour that stops here. They can be booked from most travel agent shops in the tourist resorts.
Generally Porto Stenitis is very quiet, you could easily be the only people there even in the height of summer. The only exception to this is when a boat trip turns up but they normally just stop to show people around and have a 15 minute swim so you’ll be back to peace and quiet before you know it.
