Gyri is a tiny village close to the centre of
Zakynthos island. It’s around 18km from the capital
Zakynthos Town and that would be about a 30 minute drive.
The village has just 20-30 houses, a couple of which are rented out as holiday villas. There’s no hotels and just a single taverna so Gyri really isn’t a tourist hot spot. It’s a traditional little village with an authentic Greek feel to it.
Spend a little time wandering around Gyris 15th-century streets and schedule a lunch or dinner stop at the main street taverna which serves up traditional dishes in a charming outdoor courtyard.
Gyri is almost certainly too small and quiet for most to base their holiday around but for those that do want to be secluded away from the crowds then a stay in one of the villas is a great option, a car is a necessity as there’s not even any shops in the village and you’ll want to explore the island too.
If you'd like to stay in the area then have a look at the Gyri page of booking.com
here. Alternatively find a great package holiday through Tui
here.
As you’d expect from such a small village, night life is virtually non existent, you can head to the taverna and have a couple of drinks with your meal but that’s about it.
There's not a huge amount of attractions or things to do in and around Gyri, for a night out head to
Alykes,
Alykanas or even
Tsilivi, all 3 are reachable in about 30 minutes by car.
If you want to sample some of the islands unique beaches then
Porto Stenitis beach,
Porto Vromi beach and
Navagio beach are all within 30 minutes, as are those on the north east coast around Alykes.
