Agios Georgios is a vast, quiet beach close to the southern tip of
Rhodes island. It's nearly 80km from the islands capital
Rhodes Town and that's about a 90 minute drive.
The beach has golden sand and stretches out for around 2.5km. It's between 50 and 70 metres from the rear of the beach to the waters edge so there's loads of room and as it's one of the quietest beaches on the island you'll definitely be able to claim a good amount of space just for you.
Agios Georgios beach and has no facilities so you'll need to bring your own food and drink as well as something to lay on and something for shade too. The nearest place to get food and drink is at
Plimmiri Beach which is about 15 minutes drive away.
It can sometimes be quite windy here so it's best to check the weather before making the trip as if it's too bad you'll find yourself getting covered in sand with every gust which isn't particularly enjoyable.
Agios Georgios would suit people that like to get away from the crowds and simply enjoy the sound of the sea in peace and quiet. At some times the beach is visited by naturists so if that's your thing then this is the ideal spot as it can be done without upsetting others due to the vast amount of space here.
Getting to Agios Georgios beach can be a little tricky as the last few kilometres of the journey the track turns to gravel and can be quite bumpy. It's definitely possible in a standard hire car but a 4x4 or quad would make it a lot easier. Once there you'll find a small parking area for a handful of cars and that's normally enough.
