Aegina Town is the capital, largest and most populous city on the island of
Aegina with over half the islands permanent inhabitants residing there. Located in the northern region of the west coast, Aegina town is home to the islands main port so it’s likely the first place you’ll see when you arrive.
There’s no shortage of hotels, apartments, guest houses and other accommodation in Aegina town but not many with swimming pools, there are some but they tend to be more on the outskirts of the town rather than close to the port.
Speaking of the port, the water front bars in the area are a great place to sit down and relax with a meal and/or a drink and watch the boats coming and going, although the restaurants are the other side of the road you still get a good atmosphere, particularly as you get to the
Ekklisia Isodia Theotokou end of the harbour.
Aegina town has a lot to of other amenities to offer the holiday maker, there’s a ton of shops, supermarkets, travel agents and vehicle hire companies as well as a few cash machines dotted about around the town.
The nightlife in Aegina is probably the best on the island with a plethora of restaurants and bars to choose from, both down by the harbour and in the rest of the town too.
If you want some entertainment in the evenings then you can often find live music and dancing at various venues, ask at your hotel for the best places and what nights as it changes often.
There’s also a couple of small nightclubs, they’re more like bars that offer cocktails, DJs, dancing and a general party atmosphere rather than the sort of clubs you would expect in Ibiza but still good for a night out.
Aegina is home to a number of historical sites with the archaeological site of Kolona and the
Temple of Apollo just north of the port and the
Tower of Markellos just east of the port. There’s also a few museums and even a couple of beaches, one either side of the port.
The beaches in town are not highly recommended as they are so close to the port and are often found to be dirty and not well looked after, they’re fine if you’re just visiting briefly but if you’re spending the day at the beach you’d be better off travelling to one of the islands other beaches .If you’re looking for a village with a beach then why not check out

Also in the capital you’ll find horse riding available as well as an open air cinema and a scuba diving school to the south of the town so if any of these take your fancy then be sure to stay in or at least visit Aegina Town.
