Panagia Keriotissa church is in the mountainous village of
Keri, about 20 kilometres south west of the capital
Zakynthos town. It’s also sometimes known as the virgin Keriotissa church.
Zakynthos is filled with beautiful old churches, but few are as picturesque as the Church of Panagia Keriotissa. Constructed in 1745, the church is one of the later examples of architecture from the island’s period of Venetian rule.
Nestled in a park on the southern side of town, this expansive house of worship dedicated to the Assumption commands spectacular views and delights visitors with its cobbled mosaic courtyard, bell tower, bright yellow exterior and gold facade inside.
From here you can check out some of the other viewing locations like the Keri Lighthouse and the viewpoint above the rocks so don’t forget to bring your camera with you.
There’s no car park at the church directly but there is some space on the roadside, just be aware that some of the roads are quite narrow so not ideal.
