Alykes is a fine sand beach on the north east coast of
Zakynthos. It’s roughly 16 kilometres from the islands capital
Zakynthos town and it would usually take about 20 minutes to make that journey in a hire car or taxi.
The pristine golden sands of Alykes beach gently slope into the Ionian Sea, with plenty of clear, shallow waters, making it a perfect choice for families with small children or those with weaker swimmers. It’s possible, in places to get out to 50m and still be able to touch the bottom with ease.
Safe swimming isn’t the only fun to be had. There’s the usual selection of water sports available but with the added option of paddle boarding. You’ll also have your choice of sun loungers to hire from around the multiple tavernas. They are fairly tightly packed in, particularly at the south eastern end. That said, there is still plenty of room to simply lay out a towel if you prefer.
Parking at Alykes beach can be a little tricky. It’s a fairly popular beach and there’s limited parking around some of the tavernas at the rear of the beach, if those are packed then you can always park in the streets around town and walk the last few metres to the sand.
For a long romantic stroll, trace the full length of this beach and continue through to the dramatic sweep of
Alykanas Beach. The crystal clear sea views will stay with you for a lifetime.
