Ionio beach is a continuation of
Banana beach on the north coast of the Vasilikos peninsula down in the south east corner of
Zakynthos (Zante) island. It’s just 13km from the islands capital
Zakynthos Town which is about a 20 minute drive.
The beach is just 10m deep in some places but over 40m in other areas. It’s hard to say how long the beach is as it’s part of a longer stretch and there’s no boundary between them but it’s probably around 300m with the entire length from Banana beach up past Ionio beach being way over a kilometre so it’s great for a stroll.
The beach is mainly sand and has a gentle slope into the water so kids will love playing here. There’s tons of free space away from the taverna so perfect for beach games or just some peace and quiet.
Ionio beach has a handful of loungers outside the taverna but unlike Banana beach they’re not too tightly packed and there aren’t too many meaning it’s much more relaxing.
There’s no water sports vendor on this section of the beach but as Banana beach has one it means you have the option to walk up the beach for a ride or two. There is a beach volleyball court though for the more competitive and active amongst you.
Parking is available on the roads that lead down to the beach and around the tavernas but there’s no dedicated parking area. If you want to stay close to Ionio beach then there are a couple of options nearby.
