Agios Markos Church Zakynthos
What's Agios Markos Church Like
Agios Markos is the only Catholic church on the Island, it has a sunny yellow facade and sits in the corner of Saint Markos Square, where the Tree of Freedom honours the island’s independence from Venetian rule.
The church itself was originally founded in the 16th century as the chapel of a monastery for Franciscan monks, but the building you see today is a smaller reconstruction erected after the devastating earthquake of 1953.
with it being located in Zakynthos town a visit to Agios Markos church can easily be combined with a day trip to the capital where you can visit some of the other attractions like Agios Dionysios Church, the Byzantine Art Museum and much more.
