The Damianos caves are found close to the village of
Agalas in the south west of
Zakynthos. It’s about 30 minutes from the islands capital
Zakynthos town.
Getting to the caves is relatively easy as they’re well signposted throughout Agalas, there is also a small car park at the road side and then a short walk to the caves themselves.
The Damianos caves are a unique two-storey cave that’s filled with stalactites and stalagmites, there isn’t a great deal to see as the cave is quite shallow so there’s nothing to really explore inside. If however you are in the area or passing through then it’s well worth the 15 minutes to stop by and take in the cave and the views.
At the start of the trail that leads from the roadside to the cave you’ll find a little ice cream hut and there’s also a nice modern taverna near by where you can grab some lunch before or after your visit.
