Vatsa beach is a large sandy bay on the south coast of the Paliki peninsular which is found out to the west of the main section of
Kefalonia island. Getting to the beach is relatively simple. but could take a while to get to, particularly if you are staying on the main part of the island.
Once on the beach you’ll find a wooden shack style taverna with sand floor that’s the perfect setting for a relaxed meal and a couple of drinks, there’s a few sun loungers to use and some shelters made from driftwood that gives the beach a unique rustic feel. There’s also a small river that feeds into the sea and is used by locals when heading out fishing.
Vatsa beach is good for kids as the sea shelves gently so they can play in the shallows without fear of it suddenly getting too deep for them. There are no water sports or beach sports though so bring plenty to keep them busy.
Unfortunately there is sometimes a sea weed problem on the beach depending on the time of year and the wind directions it washes up and covers the front of the beach. Don’t let that put you off, with it being so quiet there’s not many better places to relax and unwind away from the tourist crowds of the main beaches found on the rest of the island.
