Kolumbo beach, also spelled Koloumpo and known as Cape Columbo is considered by locals to be the best beach in the north of the island. It’s located up on the north east corner of
Santorini and would take around 15 minutes to make the 8km journey from the capital
Fira.
Kolumbo beach is a long and wide beach with rough grey sand and some pebbles around the entrance to the water. It's surrounded by dramatic white cliffs and rocks making it an impressive place to spend the day.
The section to the far east is very quiet with no amenities at all and for that reason it's sometimes used by nudists. As you head west towards
Baxedes beach it gets more popular and you'll find a beach bar for your refreshments throughout the day.
Around the taverna you'll have access to a section with about 30 or 40 sun loungers and umbrellas available to hire. There's no water sports or other entertainment on Kolumbo beach so those that like a peaceful day at the beach will love it.
You need your own transport to get to Kolumbo beach as it’s not on the bus route but there’s parking behind the taverna with space for 20+ cars so no problem there.
