Messaria is located just 4km south east of
Fira and 3km west of the airport, both are around a 5-10 minute drive away.
There's almost two sections to Messaria, there's a selection of hotels a gym and a supermarket out on the cliff edge and the village centre is a few hundred metres to the east.
Messaria is just beginning to become touristy with the hotels popping up by the coast, car hire shops, spas and other businesses in the town centre and a few restaurants too. It’s still nothing like Fira or
Oia but if you want to stay here you can.
Due to the fact that there are a good amount of locals living in Messaria you'll find all the required facilities like supermarkets, pharmacists, ATMs and bakeries. So if you want to be away from the mass crowds but still have everything you need near by as well as being close enough to visit Fira on occasion then Messaria could be the place for you.
If you'd like to stay in the area then have a look at the Messaria page of booking.com
here. Alternatively find a great package holiday through Tui
here.
Nightlife in Messaria is minimal, there's no late night bars or clubs, you wont find live music or karaoke but there's a decent selection of restaurants so you can enjoy a nice Greek meal and a few drinks.
If you enjoy watching the sunset then enjoying a few drinks on your balcony overlooking the caldera may be a great evenings entertainment and you can definitely do that in Messaria.
There's a couple of winery's in Messaria so you can join a tasting tour which is great fun and supports local wine makers at the same time.
As you're so close to Fira you can easily visit a few times throughout your holiday and either enjoy the sunset and nightlife there or visit the
Museum of Prehistoric Thera and learn about the history of
Santorini.
There's no beaches near by but you're only 10 minutes away from the east coast with the closest beaches being those to the north and south of the airport so
Monolithos beach to the north and
Kamari beach to the south.
