Porto Vathy beach, also known as Marble beach is on the north east coast of
Thassos between
Saliara beach and
Vathi beach. It's very popular in the peak summer months but quietens down a bit towards the end of summer.
It's a small beach at around 100 metres long and just over 120m from front to back at the widest point but much less at the edges. It's an unusual triangular shape with a road running through the middle but it's not a busy road. The main section, between the road and water is just 40m wide.
Porto Vathy has tiny marble like white pebbles under foot, it's what gives the beach it's nickname Marble beach and it's gorgeous look. It's also what makes the water reflect an amazing turquoise colour.
Marble beach has been developed over the years and currently has luxury sun loungers covering most of it. There's a pretty taverna to one side with shade and comfortable seating areas so it's perfect for your snacks, drinks and a break from the sun. There's also music, toilets, showers and changing cubicles too.
Getting to Porto Vathy beach can be a bit of a challenge, the road that leads down is quite steep and not the best but is passable in the typical hire car that you'd get on the island, a quad or buggy makes it easier. Parking can be tricky too, there's a decent amount of space amongst the trees at the rear of the beach but if you arrive late you may have to park on the road side.
There’s no water sports or beach sports so thrill seekers and the more active may get a little bored, it also wont appeal to those that like peace and quiet but for those that like to chill out with some music, a buzz from the crowd and gorgeous scenery then Marble beach is ideal.
