Vathi is a fairly quiet and remote beach on the north east tip of
Thassos about 8km east of
Limenas and just north of
Golden beach.
The beach is sand with some larger rocks around the sea entrance, it’s just 150m wide and only 10m from the waters edge to the trees behind the beach. Despite it’s small size it still boasts some gorgeous scenery, with trees lining either side and some of the clearest waters that you’ll find anywhere on the island.
Vathi beach is generally quiet but occasionally a day trip boat arrives and drops a lot of people off all at once, this isn’t too much of a problem as they don’t usually stay too long and the peace and tranquillity is then returned. Lately the word has gotten out on the beauty of the area and Vathi is seeing more visitors than it used to get, particularly in the height of summer.
There are no facilities at Vathi beach so bring snacks and refreshments with you, there’s also no sun loungers, no water sports or anything else really. For that reason, teens may find it a little boring but younger kids will love playing in the sand and paddling in the shallow waters.
Recently some work has been started on what looks like a hotel behind the beach. Unfortunately there is some construction noise but don’t let that dissuade you from visiting this lovely little beach.
To get to the beach you have to take the difficult dirt road from Makryammos, this is the same road that goes past
Saliara beach and
Porto Vathy beach too so it’s very possible to visit all three in one day if you want to. Once you arrive, you’ll have to find a spot on the roadside to leave the car and then walk the rest of the way.
