Thimonia beach is a quiet and rustic beach on the south coast of
Thassos. It’s not far from the ever popular
Alyki beach but around a 45 minute drive from the islands capital
Limenas.
This beach is roughly 200m wide and about 20m from front to back. There’s a small selection of sun loungers at the western end and a beach bar for refreshments but no water sports.
Thimonia won’t be to everyone’s tastes as there’s a mixture of sand and stones and it doesn’t have all the facilities that you might require, it’s great if you’re the sort of person that prefers to get away from the crowds as it never gets anywhere near as busy as the main tourist beaches on the island.
Getting to the beach is easy as it’s just off the main coastal road but there’s no signs so you’ll have to look up the directions before going or use sat nav to make sure you don’t miss the road to the beach. Once you get there you’ll find ample room to leave the car at the rear of the beach where it meets the road.
If you want to stay near by then there’s a hotel on one side and some apartments close by too so there’s options, you can also stay anywhere in the south east of the island and be able to get to Thimonia with ease.
Also in the area is the
Ancient Tower or Thimonia so if you’re heading out this way why not stop there for 5 minutes to have a look around.
