Plaka is a small beach close to
Banana beach on the north coast of the Vasilikos peninsular in
Zakynthos (Zante). It’s just 14km from the islands capital,
Zakynthos Town and that would usually take around 25 minutes to drive.
The beach is sandy with sun loungers covering the majority of it but they’re not too tightly packed in. The water stays shallow a long way out making it great for families. There’s no water sports, although these are available a couple of minutes walk up the coast.
It’s a relatively small beach at just 160m wide and it’s divided in two by some rocks in the middle. Plaka is around 30m deep so there’s room for 3 or 4 rows of sun loungers.
There’s no taverna on Plaka beach itself but there’s one just set back a few metres behind the beach, alternatively you can get food and drink from either of the hotels that line the rear of the beach.
Most people that visit the beach are those staying in the hotels and this may be why it doesn’t get too busy, especially as people who want entertainment would go to Banana beach and those that like it quiet would go to
Ionio beach with Plaka somewhere in between.
Getting to the beach is straight forward as it’s right down at the end of the Vasilikos Peninsular, there’s not much parking available, you can park on the roadside and walk the last few metres, alternatively, park at the end of Banana beach and walk from there.
