Kaminia beach, also known as Mounda Beach, from the name of the neighbouring cape, is located on the south coast of
Kefalonia. It's close to
Skala and around 30km from
Argostoli which is roughly 45 minutes in the car.
Kaminia is very long, it's about 2.5 kilometres in total, it's sandy and perfect for swimming, sunbathing and especially walking.
It’s good for families with young kids as the sand slopes gently into the sea, you can get out over 50m and still be able to touch the bottom so it’s really safe for youngsters to play in the shallows. One thing to note is that the southern end is often frequented by nudists so you might want to keep your kids away from this area.
There aren’t many facilities on Kaminia beach, there’s no water sports and, a handful of tavernas dotted along the rear of the beach and sun loungers to hire but that's about it. luckily you don’t come here for the facilities, you come for the beautiful tranquillity of the region, or maybe to see some of the Caretta Caretta turtles that nest on the beach.
Getting to Kaminia beach is simple, although the road leading down to the beach is not paved at the end but still easily passable. Once down by the beach there’s ample roadside parking for the number of visitors that use the beach.
