The Drogarati Caves are located near to the resort of
Sami in
Kefalonia and are also not far from the
Melissani lake cave, so you could visit both in the same day. It would take around half an hour to make the trip over from the capital
Argostoli.
The caves are approximately 60m deep and are full of stalagmites and stalactites formed over millions of years in limestone, the caves are known to have very good acoustics and on occasion have hosted concerts with up to 500 people attending. There is a small cafe for refreshments and you’ll probably need it as there are a lot of steps down, and back up.
The Drogarati Caves are open throughout the summer and sometimes in the off season as well. The entrance fee is just 5€ for adults and 3€ for kids, there’s usually a guide in the cave who is very knowledgeable but no informational signs.
Just remember, there’s no sun underground so it can get chilly down there. might be worth bringing something to wrap up in if you feel the cold.
