Kipoureon Monastery, sometimes also known as Kipouria Monastery is an incredibly scenic place that was built right on the edge of the cliff. The monastery is located on the west coast of the Palliki peninsula roughly 15km from
Lixouri.
The Kipoureon Monastery was founded in 1750 by Chrisanthos Petropoulos, the archbishop of Paxi. The monastery contains many important religious artefacts, including the icon of the Virgin Mary’s Annunciation as well as the skulls of Chrisanthos, Konstantinos and Efrosinos the founders of the monastery.
Getting to the Monastery of Kipoureon is simple as there’s a good tarmac road that goes right past, there’s also ample space outside to park. Alternatively you can use one of the island tours that stops there or get a taxi.
As you might expect from a building perched on the cliff face, there are amazing views, particularly at sunrise and sunset so don’t forget your camera.
