Karterados beach is located on the east coast of
Santorini and although not on the edge of the village of
Karterados it is the closest beach to the village. It's under 5km from the capital
Fira and that's about a 10 minute drive.
At around 250 metres long and just 25 metres at it's widest, Karterados isn't the biggest beach, luckily it's also not the most popular so it doesn't feel crowded. There's no water sports or pedalos to hire at Karterados beach, it's probably too quiet for that.
Karterados beach has the usual dark sand with some stones, there's often dried up seaweed in the area but it's not a huge issue. There's wooden boardwalks between the loungers and up to the tavernas so you can get off the hot sand when walking around.
There's a pair of tavernas at the southern end of the beach, one directly on the beach and one set back slightly, there's also a small collection of hotels in the area. Around the tavernas is where you'll find a couple of rows of nice wooden sun loungers to hire as well as a pair of large pergolas with seating in them that are great for getting out of the sun.
If you're arriving by car, then you can find some space on the road behind the beach as well as in the area around the tavernas.
