Platanes is a wide sand beach with a strip of stones at the waters edge, it’s found on the west coast of
Thassos, roughly 7km from
Limenaria and just north of
Skala Maries beach.
There’s a full range of tourist facilities including a taverna in the centre of the beach that plays music and serves food and drink throughout the day.
Platanes beach has sun beds and umbrellas available to hire out the front of the taverna but the rest of the beach is left clear so you can either lay out a towel and claim a bit of space to yourself or get a bed and relax. On top of this there is a changing cubicle, toilets, showers and parking at the rear of the beach too.
Platanes beach is good for kids as there’s so much room for them to play and enjoy the sand. The water shelves pretty steeply so it’s best to keep a close eye on little ones paddling in the water. There’s no water sports available but there is an inflatable aqua park that's great fun to run round and bounce into the water, there's also a volleyball net for the more active amongst you.
Getting to Platanes beach is simple as it’s just off the main coastal road, all you have to do is follow the signs for Skala Marion and you wont be far away.
