Vasilikos is a region at the very tip of the Vasilikos peninsular which is in the south east corner of
Zakynthos island. It’s around 15km from the islands capital
Zakynthos town which is roughly 25 minutes drive away.
There’s no real village centre, it’s more a collection of houses and hotels in amongst the lush vegetation, rolling hills and olive groves. It’s not a developed resort and makes a welcome change away from tourist crowds.
Although there’s no real village, there is still plenty of options for accommodation including some nice hotels and plenty of villas too.
If you'd like to stay in the area then have a look at the Vasilikos page of booking.com
here. Alternatively find a great package holiday through Tui
here.
Nightlife in Vasilikos is minimal, there's tavernas and restaurants dotted about but no late night bars or clubs so if that's something you want then you'll have to look elsewhere, Zakynthos Town is a good choice for a night out and just under 30 minutes taxi drive away.
In the Vasilikos peninsular there’s tons of great beaches including
Porto Roma Beach,
Gerakas Beach,
St Nicholas Beach and lots more, many of which offer excellent swimming for both adults and children. Scuba diving and a few water sports are also available, but many are forbidden in the interest of protecting the endangered Caretta sea turtles.
Also in the area is the Turtle Rescue Centre which is a great place to go and learn about the local wildlife and what's been done to preserve them. There's also the picturesque Agios Nikolaos church and although you can't go inside it's still worth a wander round.
