Agios Georgios Krimnon monastery, also known as St George Kremnon is found in the town of
Volimes in the north west of
Zakynthos. It’s around 35km from the capital
Zakynthos town and that would usually take about 45 minutes by car.
If you’re itching to get away from the busy resorts on the southeast coast then head to the northern and western parts of the island, this area is pristine, remote, and filled with interesting attractions. One such example is the Monastery of Agios Georgios Krimnon.
The monastery is the perfect spot to get away from the tourist crowds and enjoy some calm and serenity. It has a beautiful stone courtyard with potted plants and trees. There's an imposing sixteenth century stone watchtower that was built to protect the monastery from pirates and then there's the stunning views out over
Navagio Beach and the Ionian Sea.
The monastery’s medieval library is unfortunately kept in Venice and the church’s original murals have long been destroyed by war, but you can still explore the visitors’ centre and learn about famous residents like Agios Gerasimos and Pahomios Roussanos.
