Agia Effimia is a small picturesque fishing village just north of
Sami on the east coast of
Kefalonia. It’s about a 45 minute drive from the capital
Argostoli and around an hour from the airport.
The main section of the village covers just 0.2 square kilometres so you can easily wander round the whole place in a day. If you’d prefer to stay in Agia Effimia for your entire holiday then there’s a decent selection of apartments, hotels and villas available, mainly at either side of the bay or just inland.
Agia Effimia has a number of tavernas, bars and restaurants, mainly around the harbour front with lovely views of the bay from the outdoor seating areas. It’s a regular stop for boats and yachts so you can watch people come and go whilst enjoying your meal or drinks.
You’ll also find the usual tourist facilities in Agia Effimia like car rental shops, travel agencies, supermarkets, gift shops and a handful of cash machines.
If you'd like to stay in the area then have a look at the Agia Effimia page of booking.com
here. Alternatively find a great package holiday through Tui
here.
You wont find any clubs or particularly lively, late night bars in Agia Effimia but if relaxing all day and enjoying a nice evening meal followed by a few drinks in a welcoming, traditional, Greek feeling restaurant/bar is your thing then this is the place for you.
If you want some evening entertainment then ask at your hotel or in the bars for Greek nights or live music, these happen occasionally so you might be lucky to find one while you’re there.
For those staying in Agia Effimia that want something to do, there’s several boat hire companies operating from the port so you can explore the gorgeous Greek coastline at your own leisure. Alternatively, grab a spot on one of the boat tours that head round the coast or over to the neighbouring island of Ithaca. There’s also a Scuba diving club if you fancy giving that a go.
There’s a very narrow pebble beach, it’s probably not somewhere you’d spend the whole day but fine for a quick dip to cool down, There’s other beaches that aren’t too far away, the main ones being
Antisamos beach and
Myrtos beach.
Also nearby are the
Melissani Lake Cave and
Drogarati Caves which are close together so you can see both in one trip if you want.
