Potamia is nestled in the hills of mount Ipsárion in the north east of
Thassos island. It’s just south of
Panagia so you can easily visit both on the same day.
This isn’t the sort of village that most holiday makers would want to stay in as it’s too quiet for most, if however you like to visit the real Greece on your trips and like to get away from the crowds then Potamia could be a good option. If you don’t want to stay here then book early as there’s only a handful of places to stay.
Even if you don’t plan on basing your Thassos holiday in Potamia, it’s still worth a visit for a lunch, a chat with the locals, to enjoy the local surroundings and admire the views of the mountains.
To get to Potamia, from the south follow the main coastal road until you get to
Skala Potamia, the road then leads in land to Potamia. From the north follow the main road through Panagia and it leads south to Potamia.
If you'd like to stay in the area then have a look at the Potamia page of booking.com
here. Alternatively find a great package holiday through Tui
here.
There's virtually no nightlife in Potamia at all, there's no late night bars and certainly no clubs. What it does have is a handful of great tavernas where you can enjoy a peaceful evening meal in a beautiful, traditional setting followed by a few glasses of Ouzo, local wine or beer. If you're lucky you may even be able to get a nice cocktail.
There’s a coastal region called Skala Potamia which is just 30 minutes walk away and leads on to
Golden beach so this is a great option for those that want to be close to a tourist resort and one of the best beaches on the island but not right in the middle of it.
