Perivolos is a small purpose built beach resort on the southeast coast of
Santorini just south of
Perissa. It's around 10km from the islands capital
Fira and that's about a 15 minute drive.
Transfer times from the port of
Athinios or the airport to Perivolos will be around 20 minutes but could be more if there's lots of drop offs before you.
Perivolos isn't a working Greek town or an old settlement that's turned into a tourist resort, it's more simply a collection of hotels and tavernas around
Perivolos beach which is one of the best on the island.
There are a good number of hotels, there's villas, suites and even huge complexes with pools and dozens of rooms so Perivolos caters to all needs.
Perivolos has loads of tavernas and restaurants, mostly around the beach front so you get some nice views whilst enjoying your meal or drinks. There's also the usual tourist shops for souvenirs and supplies as well as cash machines and a vehicle hire shop too.
If you'd like to stay in the area then have a look at the Perivolos page of booking.com
here. Alternatively find a great package holiday through Tui
here.
The nightlife in Perivolos is decent. As mentioned there's loads of tavernas and some of those stay open late and turn into bars with cocktails and music and with them being so close to the beach you get a nice relaxed feel to the nights in Perivolos.
You wouldn't stay here if you want busy nightlife, you'd be better off in Perissa,
Kamari or Fira but if you want a break near the beach with enough to keep you busy in the evenings then this could be the spot for you.
Perivolos kind of merges into Perissa as you head north so you get a two for one deal as you can flit between the two with ease. The walk between the two is around 2km and that's about a 20 minute stroll.
From the map it looks like
Ancient Thera is nearby but there's no easy route over the mountains so you have to go round the island which takes 20 to 30 minutes. Definitely worth the trip but good to know.
