Macherado, also known as Machairado is an inland village on the island of
Zakynthos in Greece. It’s around 10km south west of the islands capital
Zakynthos town which would take around 15 minutes to drive.
Macherado is an unspoiled hamlet filled with authentic Greek tradition and natural beauty, amid the lush vegetation of this central town lies the
Agia Mavra Church. Destroyed by a fire in 2006, this anchor of local culture was recently restored to its original Venetian glory. Sightseers will also be pleased to find themselves close to the
Monastery of Eleftherotria.
If you wanted to stay in Macherado then there’s a handful of hotels in the area. You’ll also have a small choice of restaurants but don’t expect much else in the way of tourist facilities.
If you'd like to stay in the area then have a look at the Macherado page of booking.com
here. Alternatively find a great package holiday through Tui
here.
As with most of the little inland villages on Zakynthos, nightlife in Macherado is based around having a couple of drinks with your evening meal. There's no wild night life, no clubs or other evening entertainment like live music or dancing.
Macherado isn’t too far from
Kiliomenos which is another small traditional village that’s worth exploring and if you want to go to the beach then it’s easy to head down to the bay of
Laganas and visit one of
Laganas beach,
Agios Sostis beach,
Porto Koukla beach or even
Kalamaki beach.
